Kappou Yoshi at Okada: A Japanese Feast Worth the Splurge

If you’re the type who gets excited about Japanese food done right, Kappou Yoshi in Okada might just be your happy place. Chef Yoshi puts together a seasonal tasting menu where almost everything is flown in from Japan — and yes, it’s worth every bite.

We went for the Chef’s Signature Set at ₱10,000 net, which is basically his handpicked best-of-the-season. It’s a course-by-course experience that’s as much about precision and plating as it is about flavor.

What We Had

  • Appetizer & Soup
It began with Botan shrimp and edamame mousse topped with a light vinegar jelly, plus deliciously simmered Japanese veggies. Then came a delicate Hamo (conger pike) and Junsai soup in Ichiban dashi — layered, comforting umami without being too heavy.

  • Sashimi
The sashimi spread was next-level. Think melt-in-your-mouth chutoro (fatty tuna belly), shimaaji, and octopus — all sliced with surgical precision and freshness that felt like we’d hopped straight to Tokyo.

  • Fried & Grilled
Next up was belt fish tempura — rolled neatly and fried just right — paired with ayu sweetfish prepared Naruto style. Crunchy, clean, and never oily. Then, the showstopper: A5 Wagyu tenderloin from Japan, grilled over charcoal, served with veggies and two sauces — garlic and bell pepper — for that punch of flavor.

  • Rice & Soup
Then came the dish we couldn’t stop talking about: truffle rice in a clay pot. The aroma hit us the moment it opened. Served with Akadashi miso soup and Japanese pickles, it’s the kind of rice you promise yourself “just one more spoon” even when you’re full.

  • Dessert
We ended with a refreshing trio: Shizuoka melon, candy-coated Muscat grapes, and a Hoji tea pudding — light, perfectly sweet, and just what your palate needs after a feast.

Final Thoughts

What really sets Kappou Yoshi apart isn’t just the premium ingredients or technique — it’s how each course feels intentional, restrained, and rooted in Japanese tradition, while creating a dining experience you’ll remember.

If you're a Japanese food lover and don’t mind splurging for authenticity, this meal hits all the right notes.
